Our facilities for cyclists

Sustainability is important to The Richard Roberts Archive and active travel is wholeheartedly encouraged.

We have covered cycle storage facilities at the Archive. Please mention that you will be cycling when you book your appointment so we can reserve a space.

There are a number of NCN routes and LTNs nearby.

Approx journey times from nearby towns and cities:

  • Altrincham (via A560): approx 50 mins

  • Manchester Metropolitain and University of Manchester Campus (via A6/Wellington Road South): approx 45 mins

  • Manchester City Centre (via A6/Wellington Road South): approx 45 mins

  • Chorlton (via Didsbury Tram Stop NCN62): approx 45 mins

  • Wilmslow via (Wilmslow Road/Turves Road): approx 35 mins

  • Hyde (via Peak Forest canal path from A57 behind Aldi then the A560): approx 35 mins

Public Transport and Walking

Trains

Trains run frequently from Manchester Piccadilly directly to Davenport Railway Station (13 minutes’ walk from us) or the mainline Stockport station (23 minutes’ walk).

Total journey time from Manchester Piccadilly including walking from Davenport Railway Station: approx 35-40 mins.

NB: If you are travelling from Leeds or Liverpool it is recommended, for a route with minimal changes, that you travel through Manchester Piccadilly.

Walking directions:

  • Walk from Davenport Railway Station: approx. 25 mins.

  • From the main road exit of the railway station, cross the main road onto Garners Lane. Follow this road around and take the first right hand turn on to Sterndale Road. Continue walking until you reach a T-junction with Roslyn Road.

  • Turn right at the T-junction onto Roslyn Road. Continue walking along Roslyn Road until you reach a second T-junction with Rostrevor Road.

  • Turn right at the T-junction on to Rostrevor Road. Continue walking along Rostrevor Road until you reach a third T-junction with Adswood Road.

  • Turn right at the T-junction on to Adswood Road. The Archive is situated on the left side of Adswood Road on Adswood Industrial Estate which can be seen from the T-junction with Adswood Road.

  • The Richard Roberts Archive is the last unit, unit 14 ‘Pipeworks’, next to G-Mac Auto Garage.

From Leeds, East Manchester and the north:

Join the M60 Clockwise.

From Trafford, Cheshire and the south:

Join the M60 counter-clockwise.

All routes:

  • Exit M60 Junction 1, take the A5145 exit to Stockport West.

  • At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Hollywood Way/A5145

  • Turn left at the traffic lights onto A560. Continue to T-junction and turn right onto the A5145/King Street West.

  • Drive past the Stagecoach bus garage on your left and continue uphill until you reach the roundabout at Shaw Heath.

  • At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto B5465/Shaw Heath.

  • Take the 3rd right onto Gilmore Street.

  • Continue along Gilmore Street until it becomes Range Road.

  • Drive past the Shaw Heath Recreation Ground on your left hand side.

  • The road bends to the right and becomes Adswood Road. Continue along Adswood Road.

  • The Archive is situated on Adswood Industrial Estate on your right-hand side opposite a football field. The Archive is after Stockholm Road (also on the right).

  • The Richard Roberts Archive is the first unit, unit 14 ‘Pipeworks’, next to G-Mac Auto Garage.
